Tell a Story. Create a piece of Art.

Tell a Story. Create a piece of Art.

I like to write words down on paper. Words come to me when the words come. I try to remember the good ones. A fabulous artist and friend recently told me; you’ve got to have an interesting story to tell about your art. Something people will be a able to retell and use to explain my art and in turn perhaps myself. Something unique, something no one else is doing nor has done in the art world.

I’ve always felt my specific vision and in turn my art is different from what I have seen and experienced in my short time on this planet. I try to mesh my numerous passions in life; love of architecture, hand drawing, painting, art history, exploring and trying to understand cultures other than my own, travel, the power of words, what it is to be alive on planet earth, music + modern and contemporary art to name a few. It can be a challenging process to incorporate what is happening inside me at any given moment along with the cultural and often chaotic collection of experiences we call human behavior. Something artists have been dealing with for a very long time I suspect.

My process, how and what I show to the world, first of all comes from inside me. My feelings both positive and perhaps not so positive. Many times words come to mind. For example, ‘screaming red sky’ is something I wrote down a few months back along with a quick sketch. Pure flow from my mind down to the paper. I will create a detailed piece of art based on the words and sketch. As I write this, a more detailed image has come to life in my mind.

Words matter and words play a big role in my artwork. They are part of my process. As I move forward on this artistic journey, words and in-turn story will continue to play a major role in each artwork I produce and share with you. My hope is that in sharing the story, no matter how trivial it may be, you will understand the artwork and a little bit more about me.
